Benzon Symposium 64 – GLYCOTHERAPEUTICS – EMERGING ROLES OF GLYCANS IN MEDICINE

Copenhagen August 27-30 2018

Organizers: Henrik Clausen, Hans H. Wandall, Steffen Thiel, James Paulson, Nico Callewaert, Finn Cilius Nielsen, Hans Bräuner-Osborne

The Benzon Symposia are international conferences on front line research in medical, pharmaceutical, and related sciences funded by the Alfred Benzon Foundation.

The concept of the 64th Benzon Symposium on Glycotherapeutics – Emerging Roles of Glycans in Medicine is to bring together the world’s leading scientists working on complex carbohydrates with clear translational drug and therapeutic perspectives. With this symposium, we aim to encompass as many aspects of glycans and therapeutic applications as possible in order to stimulate new ideas, interactions and synergies, and to foster further excitement and developments in this field. We hope to create an intense and interactive environment for both experienced and young scientists with a mixture of invited and selected presentations from participants. A key objective is to bring together leading scientists from different disciplines working with therapeutic options involving glycans and the different technologies that enable discovery and production of glycotherapeutics.

We believe the symposium will bring improved understanding and appreciation of the wide opportunities of glycans in drug development and introduce advancements in innovative technologies applicable to the field.

The titles of the sessions are:

GlcNAcylation & diseases
Congenital diseases of glycosylation & therapeutic options
Immunology & therapeutic options
Glycome & Microbiome
Engineering glycosylation in cells
Glyco-therapeutics
Platform technologies for advancing glyco-drugs

Symposium No. 64 will feature state-of-the art lectures by 24 world-leading scientists, who have made groundbreaking contributions to the field of glycoscience and glycotherapeutics. The Benzon Symposium will further include 16 oral presentations selected from submitted abstracts for poster presentations. Attendance will be limited to 150 scientific participants in total, and all attendees will be accommodated at the Hotel Skt. Petri (http://www.sktpetri.com/) located in the center of Copenhagen (Denmark) for the entire event.
